Blues, Blues, Blues...when the rest of Canada is thinking GOLD, Saskatoon was Blue. But, just like with the gold, we did a great job of being Blue. The Saskatoon Blues Society did an awesome job of not only hosting a great Blues Festival, the made a wholesale change of moving the Blues Festival from the Broadway area to the downtown area...and it worked. The crowds were at maximum capacity for most events, the sound in the two major venues of the Odeon Center and the Hilton Gardens was strong by all accounts and the musicians were awesome. The bluesmen and women came with songs, stories, laughter and an ease of being; they came with the Blues. Hats off to the organizers, the volunteers and the Saskatoon Blues Society... you won Gold this weekend. Well Done!

Jazz was stioll on at the Bassment and to a full house. The gig was called, 'The Three Trumpets" or as Dave Andersen said 'The Three Fat Lips". Dave was joined on stage by Dean McNeil, Barrie Redford and all three performed sweet melodies and blew the ceiling off the Bassment. Don Griffith on piano, Doug Gilmore on bass and Don Tatchell took to the skins. All in all, the audience loved it and was truly impressed and entertained.

What's coming up for jazz in Saskatoon? On Friday night, March 5, the University of Saskatchewan Jazz Ensemble will be down at the Bassment showing of the skills, jazzing up their technique with the swing of the Bassment!

This upcoming Saturday, March 6 will be Dean McNeil with Jim Brennan and Don McCaslin. Together they will play everything from ballads to bossa novas to up tempo swing. It will be another great Saturday night jazz gig at the Bassment! See you down at the Bassment!
