Blues
in Dowtown Saskatoon Tuesday, February 23, 2010 The Blues are in downtown Saskatoon starting Thursday, February 25th through to Sunday, February 28! So, what do the Blues have to do with jazz. Well, Honey, if you didn't have the blues, we'd never have jazz. Someone once said: "Jazz is just the blues gone to college, Gospel is the blues gone to church, And the blues is life set to music!" So...here's what's happening for the blues life this weekend at the Saskatoon Blues Festival! On Thursday the action starts at the Odeon Electric Blues Cabaret (Odeon Center) with a mixture of music between local bluesmen Tim Vaughn Band and Three String Fretless and eastern coast bluesman; Keith Hallet and his Band. The Thursday night show (yes, it still only Thursday night) with a maniac bluesman from Mississippi (did I spell that correctly?), Sonny Landreth. Sonny has played with everyone from Jimmy Buffet to John Mayall to Bonnie Raitt. Everybody is talking about him and you know that he'll be good. The show promises to be bluesy, but electric blues, starting at 7 PM and going through the night. Tickets: $25.00 On Friday night, all ears will be leaning towards the Hilton Garden Blues Room. Yes, the night will be acoustic, but no less tame. Fiona Boyes, award winning blues artist from Melbourne to Memphis to Saskatoon; the Blues Music Awards named Fiona "Traditional Female Blues Artist" of the year! Following Fiona, Alvin Youngblood Hart, a musician who knows no boundaries and will give you loads to take in. Shows start at 8 PM at $25.00 a ticket. Saturday night is the night that all blues fans are waiting for and the action will be back at the Odeon Electric Blues Cabaret. The music for the night includes Saskatoon's own Transcontinental Blues Band, Trevor Findlay, B.C. Read Big Band and Omar & The Howlers. Omar promises do get everyone on the dance floor!! See you there.:) Starts at 7 PM and again, tix are $25.00 But that's not all...back at the Hilton Garden Acoustic Blues Room the music will be steady...steady and bluesy. Saturday's show includes Harrison kennedy, Paul Oscher and in the Cabaret Room down the hall, it's Clayton Linthicum, Kenny Marco and Tim Williams Electro-fires! All shows $25.00. Haven't had enough?? Well, on Sunday the blues wind-up with a final show at 2 PM. Tickets are only $10.00, at the Hilton Inn and quite honestly, you never know you'll stop by. It's an all-artist low out event. It's a bit of a secret...shhh, I'll see you there! |
