On Friday, February 5 down at the
Bassment Jazz Club, 202 4th
Ave. N, the Brad Turner Trio from Vancouver will be
presenting. A
talented trumpeter, pianist, drummer and composer, Brad Turner is one of Canada's
most-in-demand musicians. Brad has performed and /or recorded with such artists
as Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, John Scofield, and Gary Bartz. In 1999 he
won a Juno for Best Contemporary Jazz Album recognizing his work in the internationally
acclaimed electric jazz group Metalwood. Joining Brad will be Simon
Fisk - bass and Bernie Arai - drums. Tickets are only $10.00 with all proceeds going to the Saskatoon Jazz Society. When I recently asked someone if they will be at the Bassment to see the show, the response was..."Are you kidding, Shelly? It will be a ‘killer show'. You'll want to be there...I know I will be. On Saturday, February 6th, jazz man, Kenny Colman will be performing at the St. Thomas Moore College President's Gala. Kenny Colman's career longevity comes from a never-say-die spirit -- and a little help from his friends. Along the way, he had friends like Frank Sinatra "who counted me in his fraternity of the saloon singers, who told me just to keep singing, and became the best agent I ever had." Another boost came from retired beer baron Freddy Heineken, who spent a "bundle" producing Dreamscape, Colman's 1994 "legacy album." The Saturday performance will include trumpeter-pianist Brad Turner. Show includes d fabulous dinner and an evening of exciting jazz entertainment. Tickets $225 per person with all proceeds going to the St. Thomas Moore College bursaries and scholarships. For tickets call 966-8940 |
