It is Mardi Gras time and if you are not able to be in New
Orleans for the celebration, then you'll want to be at the Bassment for their
Mardi Gras celebration. The fun begins on Saturday, January 30and finishes on
Saturday, February 13. And fun it will be! Though the music will be from New Orleans, the talent featured will hail from the prairie province of Saskatchewan. On Friday, January 30 the Jazz Barrie Jam will perform highlighting the music of Dixieland bands. The group is headed by local extra-ordinary trumpeter, Barry Redford featuring the music of Dixieland, juazz standards and big band sounds. The following Friday, February 12, will showcase Dixieland music again, but this time feature Saskatchewan drummer, Don Tatchell, along with a number of members from the North Battleford band formerly known as Bourbon Street Dixieland Show Band. Each of these shows is a warm-up for the real Mardi Gras celebration to be held on Saturday, February 13 when the Saskatoon Jazz Society and the Bassment present Don Griffith leading three different bands: The Crawdaddios, Zyde-gogo and Dr. Don and the Black Mambas. The party atmosphere will be at an all time high at this show. The dance floor will be full and the party will be on. Looking to celebrate Mardi Gras? Join us at the Bassment - 202 4th Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK. The fun, and the music for all shows begins at 9 PM with a ticket price of $6.00 for members of the Saskatoon Jazz Society and $8.00 for non-members. |
